PHARMA DYNAMICS SECURES MAJOR GOVERNMENT TENDER TO EXPAND ACCESS TO LIFE-SAVING MEDICINES IN SA
Pharma Dynamics has been awarded two significant government tenders valued at approximately R1.35 billion, marking a milestone for the company’s growth and reinforcing its commitment to making essential medicines affordable and accessible to South Africans.
The National Department of Health (NDoH) awarded Pharma Dynamics two major tenders effective from 22 October 2025: a three-year antiretroviral (ARV) tender valued at R900 million and a two-year tuberculosis (TB) tender worth R450 million. This marks Pharma Dynamics’ entry into the competitive HIV treatment market in South Africa and an expanded footprint in TB treatment.
The tenders underscore the company’s dedication to delivering critical medicines that address some of the country’s most pressing public health challenges. “Access to affordable, high-quality medication is core to Pharma Dynamics’ values,” says Erik Roos, CEO of Pharma Dynamics. “This milestone underscores our ongoing commitment to partner with government in the fight against HIV and TB, ensuring that these life-saving medicines reach those who need them most.”
Pharma Dynamics’ parent company, Lupin, supports the operation through its Global Institutional Business (GIB) division, which specialises in supplying TB and ARV medicines through institutional channels globally. Lupin’s integrated manufacturing capability – from active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) to finished products – provides the scale and reliability needed to meet South Africa’s demand, with local supply being prioritised.
In addition to new ARV offerings, Pharma Dynamics successfully retained and expanded its TB tender portfolio. The new TB tender almost doubles the company’s previous government contract value in this category, reflecting growing trust and confidence from the NDoH. Several new TB products have been added to the supply list, enhancing the range of treatment options available within public healthcare.
The company has also partnered with Xeon Logistics, a Johannesburg-based distribution specialist, to ensure efficient delivery of medicines to public health institutions nationwide. This partnership aims to streamline supply chains and improve medicine availability across the country.
Pharma Dynamics’ strong BBBEE (Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment) certification was a key factor in securing the tender, aligning with government priorities to promote transformation within the pharmaceutical sector. “This tender win strengthens our position as a trusted partner in SA’s public healthcare sector,” says Roos. “It also signals the important role the private sector plays in supporting national health objectives and expanding access to essential medicines at an affordable price point.”
It also reinforces Pharma Dynamics’ strategic vision of sustainable growth grounded in social impact, while strengthening Lupin’s broader operations in South Africa through shared financial and strategic benefits.
This partnership represents a significant step in Pharma Dynamics’ mission to enhance health outcomes for South Africans affected by HIV and TB. As the country continues to confront these critical health challenges, the cooperation between government and industry demonstrates a shared dedication to providing tangible benefits to the nation’s public healthcare system.
